A Mom in Georgia is Arrested and Told to Let the Government TheTRACK Her Son if She Wants the Charges to be Dropped
A 10 year old boy in Georgia walked a half a mile in the small town they live in, where he has other family members and everyone knows everyone. He wasn’t harmed or in danger, and the mother was arrested, in front of her children. Then a social worker to get house with a safety plan that would order the mother to get her son a smartphone to be tracked, and then they’ll drop the charges. She refused to sign. Rightfully so. This is EGREGIOUS. Parents have a constitutional right to raise their family free of government interference.
TUESDAY’S OPINION:
Perhaps many others might believe a boy of age 10/11 should not be walking alone. That may be true. HOWEVER, this should be decided on the situation in totality. Of course we don’t know all the details but it is a small town. The road was not a highway or busy road. The boy obviously knew where he was going. And did NOT MAKE ANY OUTCRY, nor is this a family with a history of problems. I do not see how this rises to the level of abuse or neglect. For the caseworker to order this child be tracked via a smart phone is overreach. I did not carry s smartphone at that age. I did not let my son have one at that age. I could see if this was in Los Angeles, or Dallas/Ft worth, then it might be a questionable decision for a child to walk alone at that age. I guess it would depend on the child and the area and the maturity of that child. I know grown adults who shouldn’t walk alone. I know children who make better decisions than some adults. To arrest this mother, and to present her with a safety plan is overreach.
Had she signed, she would have been labeled from then on as a preparator of abuse or neglect, put into a database for the rest of her life marked as an abuser. She would be at risk of losing her children if she doesn’t comply with some kind of order that isn’t really designed to protect the child.
Lastly, the caseworker then sent the boy a birthday card shortly after this incident.
Caseworkers are not allowed to give gifts to children.
Why would she do such a thing?
That is akin to grooming a child, and is inappropriate. I truly hope this mother gets good legal representation, and is cleared of any wrongdoing. I truly hope this family is not subjected to go be retrained any further harm at the hands of the government, the legal system, and that resources are not on a family like this who does not need them to interfere in their lives and that this resources can be made available to children and families who DO Need help. I think this caseworker needs better training, and needs to check her priorities.
